Warning Sirens Descriptions

Warrensburg is Storm Ready - - - Are You???

Warrensburg is a Storm Ready Community as classified by the National Weather Service.  This means that we are ready in the event of weather related events.  We can warn the public of impending weather hazards by several different methods. One method is the Outdoor Storm Warning System. There are a series of outdoor weather warning systems that will sound an alert that can be heard in most areas of the City.  As an added benefit, the sirens can be heard indoors but, do not depend on hearing them as another warning system would work better indoors.

Emergency Kit

We recommend that you have an emergency kit prepared in the event that there is disaster in the area.  Below are suggested items to have gathered:

  • Water and canned or dried food – families should set aside one gallon of water per person per day, to last three days, and a three-day supply of food per person. The food should be nonperishable items that don’t need to be cooked, such as tuna and crackers. Remember to include a manual can opener. If there’s an infant in the house, include formula and baby food.
  • Battery powered radio
  • Flashlight
  • Extra batteries for the radio and flashlight
  • Prescription medications
  • First-aid kit
  • Shoes
  • Pet food

Many people wonder why that there should be shoes in the kit. Well a lot of the time the storms hit at night and putting on shoes is always not the first thing that is thought of.  There will be a lot of debris and glass after an event and shoes would be a good thing.  Keep your kit in your safe area or in a storm shelter so it is where you need it.
